This story completely unraveled me. I felt everything while reading it. My heart was pulled, stretched, and squeezed in the most beautiful way, and when I finished, I honestly didn’t know what to do with all those emotions left behind.
Ellis was such a quietly powerful character. His mutism, his gentle soul, and his rich inner monologues made him unforgettable. Despite how others judged or underestimated him, Ellis was intelligent, bright, deeply emotional — a rugged, handsome teddy bear whose kindness was written into his very nature. He simply couldn’t hurt anyone, because it went against everything he was.
Lucky was his perfect opposite. Loud, adventurous, vibrant, openly gay, and full of life. Their connection felt otherworldly — deep, layered, and profoundly intimate. The way their love unfolded felt honest and tender, built on understanding, patience, and unwavering devotion.
As a photographer myself, I connected deeply with Lucky’s travels and creative soul. I also loved how Ellis expressed his feelings for Lucky through art — through glassblowing and through the photographs that captured their shared journeys. The meaning behind those pieces was incredibly beautiful and emotional.
Emmy Sanders’ writing style was simple yet poetic, quietly powerful in the moments that mattered most. And the narration… oh my god. It elevated the entire story to another level. Blake Lockhart (a personal favorite) once again proved why his voice gets under my skin — the emotion, the vulnerability, the delivery were flawless. Liam DiCosimo matched him perfectly, adding depth and balance to the storytelling.
This book was tender, emotional, and unforgettable.
One I will carry with me — and absolutely reread.
