The New York Times and USA TODAY bestselling collection of short stories chronicling the adventures of Simon Lewis as he trains to become a Shadowhunter is now available in print with ten brand-new comic illustrations!

Simon Lewis has been a human and a vampire, and now he is becoming a Shadowhunter. The events of City of Heavenly Fire left him stripped of his memories, and Simon isn’t sure who he is anymore. So when the Shadowhunter Academy reopens, Simon throws himself into this new world of demon-hunting, determined to find himself again. Whomever this new Simon might be.

But the Academy is a Shadowhunter institution, which means it has some problems. Like the fact that non-Shadowhunter students have to live in the basement. At least Simon’s trained in weaponry—even if it’s only from hours of playing D&D.

Join Simon on his journey to become a Shadowhunter, and learn about the Academy’s illustrious history along the way, through guest lecturers such as Jace Herondale, Tessa Gray, and Magnus Bane. Written by Cassandra Clare, Sarah Rees Brennan, Maureen Johnson, and Robin Wasserman, these moving and hilarious short stories are perfect for the fan who just can’t get enough of the Shadowhunters. Simon has always been my favorite character in the Mortal Instruments series. So of course, I was delighted to find out that after the - for Simon fans - quite dissatisfying ending of City of Heavenly Fire, his story would continue and we would get to read/listen to it. I think being a Simon fan is what it comes down to with this anthology of short stories: if you love Simon, you will LOVE this book. And even if you only want to read it to complete your knowledge of the Shadowhunter world, this audio book is well worth a listen - we find out so many interesting things about the Shadowhunter world, important events past and present, many side characters such as Robert Lightwood, Catarina Loss, and my new favorite James Herondale. Of course, some of the most beloved TMI characters - Clary, Isabelle, Magnus and Alec, etc. - feature heavily as well, which makes this a truly wonderful addition to the TMI books. As mentioned in the heading, this has become my "go-to" audio book - I keep listening to single stories again and again, and they never fail to make me happy. An honorable mention also goes out to the new characters we meet in this anthology - you won't be able to help loving George Lovelace. Cassandra Clare and friends are at their best in this - the narrators are also very good. (And imho, I think this is a big improvement from the Magnus Bane chronicles - not as whimsical and it gets very deep at times.)

My go-to audio book

Now, I am suffering withdrawl.
Simon made his way and I heard more about Malec & Co.

I loved it!

Quotes from Tale of the Shadowhunter academy:

"You are the flame that cannot be put out. You are the star that cannot be lost. You are who you always have been, and that is enough and more than enough. Anyone who looks at you and sees darkness is blind."

"We all change the world, with every day of living in it," Magnus said. "You just have to decide HOW you want to change the world."

"I think sometimes it's too hard to believe in yourself. You just do the things you're not sure you can do. You just act, in spite of not being certain. I don't believe I can change the world--it sounds stupid to even talk about it--but I'm going to try."

"I love you. I love you without the memories. I love you right now."
Isabelle said in a calm voice, "I know."
Simon stared at her. "Was that...," he said slowly. "Was that a Star Wars reference? Because if it was, I would like to declare my love all over again."

"But I know your blood doesn't define you. What defines you is the choices you make. If I've learned anything this year, it's that. And I also know that loving someone--even when it's scary, even when there are consequences--is never the wrong thing to do. Loving someone is the opposite of hurting her."
