I would say that this is nt a book for ure enjoyment but rather for personal reflection. It touches the subject of growing old, resentments of the past, how we can feel about people and death - ultimately and silently asking the question what we want to do with our ahort and precious lives.
The ending came rather unprepared and abrupt, which can hint one more time to the impermanence of life. But personally, I wanted the story to continue and at least find some form of reconciliation. However the author decided to keep the reader in this conflict, and having to accept even that - just like life, so this story didn't end as anticipated.
And what do we do with it now?

Und Angela Winkler zeigt hier Ihre große Kunst, sich in die Charaktere und deren augenblicklichen Befindlichkeiten und psychischen Zustände einzufühlen und sich durch Stimmlage, Stimmtonus und Sprechtempo dem ganz zu ergeben. Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass ein Hörerlebnis so sein kann… Große Kunst eben und ein Genuss.
Ein Stern Abzug, weil man große Literatur nicht kürzen darf.
