Some of the best leaders in the world have come out of West Point - President Dwight D. Eisenhower, General George S. Patton, and corporate leaders such as Marsh Carter, former Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange, and Alex Gorsky, CEO of Johnson & Johnson. In many ways, the United States Military Academy at West Point is synonymous with leadership. Notably, however, the names that most people associate with this venerable institution have included only men.
The first few classes of women at West Point faced numerous obstacles to graduate, yet through the cauldron of that experience they developed a formidable hardiness that firmly places them among the best of the best.
Sara Potecha was one of the first women to graduate from West Point. The lessons she learned at the Academy and in the Army - about life and leadership, courage and character, resolve and resilience - have served her well in both military and civilian roles. Those skills have inspired this powerful book for leaders who aim to, like Sara, come out ahead even in the face of adversity and care for their own teams thoughtfully and with heart. West Point Woman is a leadership memoir of organizational leadership and is applicable across all industries, genders, and professional expertise.
