Two teen vigilantes set off on an action-packed investigation to expose corruption and deliver justice in Valiant Ladies, Melissa Grey's YA historical fiction novel inspired by real seventeenth century Latinx teenagers known as the Valiant Ladies of Potosí.
By day Eustaquia “Kiki” de Sonza and Ana Lezama de Urinza are proper young seventeenth century ladies. But when night falls, they trade in their silks and lace for swords and muskets, venturing out into the vibrant, bustling, crime-ridden streets of Potosí, in the Spanish Empire's Viceroyalty of Peru. They pass their time fighting, gambling, and falling desperately in love with one another. Then, on the night Kiki's engagement to the Viceroy's son is announced, her older brother—heir to her family’s fortune—is murdered. The girls immediately embark on a whirlwind investigation that takes them from the lowliest brothels of Potosí to the highest echelons of the Spanish aristocracy.
©2022 Melissa Grey (P)2022 Recorded BooksI didn't like how blood thirsty they are. I was interested in how in a religious society lesbians found ways to hide themselves and be happily in love... but i am on the asexual spectrum and for me it was too erotic love at the beginning. I understand they are together for 5 years without any phisical contact, but they aren't horny teens anymore, are they? I missed the part with the ages... and i was never normal in this view... i just needed more reasons for the love, than being an unbeatable killer duo. And how painful it is, that they are separated for a whole day, but the bro gets killed, the woman sleyer doesn't kill the poor, family less girl. Another problem, maybe only for me: everybody talks about them as if they were lovers... how old fashioned religious ppl are they, if it is possible to accept (society), but still don't accept (themselves and family).
The dad seems to be chill letting her daughter play with a thief, teaching sword fight and killing skills... or what have i missed? I also cannot believe, she liked her bro and was happily ever after with her gf... i mean i didn't really listen to it; but the last chapter seemed to be a few days... DAYS or HOURS after the son's dead; and everything is sad, but chill, we can finally f... Masterpiece... I don't even know, if there are erotic fantasies in the book, because the last chapter seems to be clean... but the first chapters, they are (in ther mind at least) horny and making stop because of forbidden arts...
Not my cup of tea
