This is why I love anthologies by J.R.R. Martin. This is one of my finds there and I will continue to look for others. Very funny two guys...

Hap and Leonard, the redneck hippy and his black friend, who does not only like to put the houses of drug dealers on fire, but is also gay, have to do a favor to Marvin Hanson, a police lieutenant, to make him forget the latest arson. The two of them have to check on Marvin's girlfriend Florida, who disappeared after she set out to clear up the mysterious suicide of a black guy in a prison cell in Grovetown Texas.

Hap and Leonard are as funny and crazy as before. The storyline is perhaps a little bit thin, but it is full of the usual sarcasm, bitter wit and of course vulgar language. The humor and fun of the language do little to hide the bitter truth about racism and intolerance. Grovetown is a synonym for many places in the south of the US, where business and politics were closely linked with the Klan and the legal system turned a blind eye to crime and abuse of minorities.

It is a good story, nicely told and you might get some laughs, but more often than not with a tear in your eye.

And by the way, Phil Gigante did an outstanding job in reading it.
