Nobel Prize winner Dr Elizabeth Blackburn and leading health psychologist Dr Elissa Epel have discovered biological markers called telomeres, which can help us to understand how healthy our cells are and what we can do to improve them.
The Telomere Effect looks at ideas including how biological age is not chronological age, a biological basis for the mind-body connection and how sleep and diet can affect telomeres. It also offers tools and advice on how to determine cellular age and telomere health.

There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Shetty grew up in a family where you could become one of three things - a doctor, a lawyer, or a failure. His family was convinced he had chosen option three: Instead of attending his college graduation ceremony, he headed to India to become a monk, to meditate every day for four to eight hours, and devote his life to helping others. After three years, one of his teachers told him that he would have more impact on the world if he left the monk’s path to share his experience and wisdom with others.

Working with thousands of patients, Dr. Gundry has discovered that the “diseases of aging” we most fear are not simply a function of age; rather, they are a byproduct of the way we have lived over the decades. In The Longevity Paradox, he maps out a new approach to aging well - one that is based on supporting the health of the “oldest” parts of us: the microorganisms that live within our bodies.

lengthy, repetitive, - with just one key message: you should reduce stress in your life. whatever you do do it in moderation, don't overdo anything be it exercise, sugar, alcohol, etc. telemeres is just another new reasoning behind what's been known for ages already -- too much stress is harmful for you. -- so the whole book revolves around this idea and just gives a plenty of examples how and where stressful situations can occur: unfortunate private life, childhood trauma, dangerous neighborhood, overexercising, dieting, etc. Apart from that Very little, if any, information is given about what to do to elongate telemeres besides avoiding stress.
