Too monotenous. I nearly dropped out of the series. Gave it another go, and here I am with the third installment! And I cannot wait to start the next one.
Why the change of mind?
First of all, the characters are very likeable, every one and all.
Secondly, I love how the chapters are all titled by the character "in charge". That is so valuable for an audio book I listen to mainly in my car - I know right away where I am.
Thirdly, I believe there is a sweet love story developing. We are holding our breath.
I love Cozies set in the era - didn't disappoint

A detective/spy story should at least to some degree give us a plot that is either intriguing or realistic. Ideally - and 1941 England would be an prime playground - it also whisks us away into a foreign land where people and their lives are beautifully different. Crofters Green is named like an Agatha Christie style idyll with mm urder lurking under the surface, but what a flat atmosphere we are brought into here!
Characters are one-dimensional, villains look villainous, heros are beavely battling on with their amputated legs, wonderful dads, redeemed by loving wives.
The plot is predictable, no surprising twists and turns, all utterly and unrealistically fantastic. A trivial dime-novel.
The reading I found rather monotonous and the voice a bit too grating.
Maybe I came with the wrong expectations.
Predictable and trivial
