Really liked it despite it not being a typical Tess Gerritsen.

I love Gerritsen’s novels, and she had me at haunted house by the sea…
Buuuut then she lost me. Somewhere between the alcoholic, wimpy liar of a protagonist who gets her masochist on with a sado ghost and the very obvious plot, I was just holding on till the end because I was hoping for something better to Shyamalan out of the third act. Alas, nope.
It’s not even that it’s totally bad. It’s just mostly boring, uninspired and not a teeny tiny bit scary. Not even the dishes of her cookbook are fleshed out (ha! Pun!) in a way that they’d add to the atmosphere or could be cooked. They are just a convenient backdrop to complement the lady’s alcohol consumption. The narrator is fine and doing her level best with the material handed to her.

Bottomline: I should have listened to my dog owner instincts and not read books about a cat person.

PS: this particular novel and her protagonist surely must be any woke feminists absolute nightmare. So it works on that level 😄🤷‍♂️
