The conflict between skilled mercenaries and the trapped group of prospectors has been getting worse. New monsters have also been arriving in the anomalous zone. Some of them have even managed to get over to Earth. Their abilities have been increasing so much that they will soon be able to devour humans and mercenaries alike and nothing will stop them becoming kings of the Other Side. If that happens, Earth will lose its chance to stay isolated from other worlds.
Survival is possible if unique skills can be developed. It's a risk worth taking but the prospectors are running out of time.
