Willkie Collins' novel is a great pleasure to listen to, not only because of the exciting crime story, the absurd twists, and the great humour, but also because of the original narrative style. All the characters involved tell a part of the story in their very specific voice and each contribute to the solution. In this novel, which was published in 1863, servants, socially marginalised people and women all have their say. It's a pity that in the 21st century the female narrator is not even mentioned in the audiobook description. Willkie Collins would not have been amused

one of the first classic whodunits - and one of the best ones
