Über diesen Titel

Narrated by acclaimed British actor Edward Petherbridge, The Last Moriarty is set in London, 1895. On a cold November morning, a young American actress visits 221B Baker Street, desperate for Sherlock Holmes to protect her from the threats of a mysterious, menacing man who has recently appeared in her life. Holmes agrees to help, even though he has just promised the Prime Minister to solve the murder of John D. Rockefeller's security agent before the incident can derail an upcoming British-American summit. To find the agent's killer - and help the young actress - Holmes will need all his talents for both deduction and deception. But when another lovely woman, this one from Holmes's past, reappears and clues to the murder point to the late Professor Moriarty, the famously analytical detective must also look inward. Can Holmes prevent chaos on both sides of the Atlantic and unmask his newest client's shadowy antagonist? For Holmes and Watson, this is the case that will change everything. Revised edition: This edition of The Last Moriarty includes editorial revisions.

For me the story started promising and disappointed thoroughly. I was led to believe this was meant to be a Sherlock and Watson mystery but found myself in something akin the set up of the famous five by Enid Blyton: A group of people, yes, one of them called Holmes and one Watson, stumble through a series of events and eventually arrive at a kind of end. But it’s not a brilliant Sherlock having the lead and foreseeing possible outcomes, the adventure is a group project where every member contributes his share to the observations. And the end is not arrived at through a series of cunning deductions but by a series of favorable accidents. Having written this it has to be added that the story lines of Edith Blyton seemed more plausible than the one in question.
Contrary to other opinions I cannot see any resemblance with a mystery by Sir AC Doyle.
Additionally I could not warm to the performance of the narrator: not enough distinction between the voices of the characters and repeatedly swallowing parts of the words added to the disappointment related to the contents.

Disappointing
