Über diesen Titel

In the heart of Venice, a woman is sacrificed to a forgotten god, sparking a mystery lost for thousands of years.

Dr. Penelope Bryne is ridiculed by the academic community for her quest to find the remnants of Atlantis, but when an ancient and mysterious script is found at a murder site, she flies to Venice determined to help the police before the killer strikes again.

Penelope has spent her entire life trying to ignore the unexplainable and magical history of Atlantis, but when she meets the enigmatic Alexis Donato, everything she believes will be challenged. Little does she know, Alexis has spent the last three years doing his best to sabotage Penelope's career so she doesn't learn the truth - Atlantis had seven magicians who survived and whom he has a duty to protect.

As Alexis draws her into the darkly, seductive world of magic and history, Penelope will have to use her heart as well as her head if she is to find the answers she seeks.

With the new MOSE system due to come online and Carnivale exploding around them, Penelope and Alexis will have to work together to stop the killer and prevent dark magic from pulling Venice into the sea.

Quite a good idea, but no real depth or creative plot. Ordinary and in places for seeable storyline à la twighlight, which in itself is no negative, still I missed something more than an evil villain and the one true love.

Nice story

I absolutetly loved this story and can't wait to listen to the second book. Amy Kuivalainen has taken well-known elements of an urban fantasy story and created a whole new world with it.
After listing to many urban fantasy stories, they start to blurr together at one point - but this one was different, fresh, new and interesting. I enjoyed every minute of the story.
I loved the main characters! Penelope is smart, kind, a bit nerdy, rational and knows what she wants. And Alexis...oh Alexis! It's been a while since I was this giddy over a love interest! He is so sweet, loving and respectful without losing his mysterous charme. I also liked all the secondary characters (though some more than others)
It was pretty easy to figure out who the murderer was, but that's okay since that wasn't really the main focus of the story. All in all, it felt like this first book was more of an introduction to the characters and the overall plot, so there wasn't much action here - nut the pace picked up towards the end of the book and I'm really curious to see how the story will continue.

The narrator (Amelia Hugh) was amazing! She added so much charme to the story. At first all the accents irritated me a bit, but I quickly grew to like them and now I think they were a nice touch.

I was not expecting it to to be this good
