Über diesen Titel

Edward Baltram is overwhelmed with guilt. His nasty little prank has gone horribly wrong: He fed his closest friend a sandwich laced with a hallucinogenic drug, and the young man fell out of a window to his death. Edward's guilt and depression are worsened by daily letters from the young man's mother cursing Edward as a murderer. Tortured, Edward searches for redemption through a reunion with his famous father, the reclusive painter Jesse Baltram.

Kritikerstimmen

"[T]he reader's involvement with the huge cast never diminishes, nor does attention to their wit and philosophical exchanges flag.” (Publishers Weekly)

"Iris Murdoch at her most artful, juggling philosophy and farce with knowledge and ease." (Economist)

"Murdoch works with an intellectual daring most writers only dream of." (The Philadelphia Inquirer)

Was hat Ihnen am allerbesten an The Good Apprentice gefallen?

Fantastic story, very ellaborated and intelligent. The reading is distracting in some points, I did not really enjoy how the reader makes up voices of characters, I found it confusing at times. But the story pays off. Quite long, needs some patience to make it work.

Great story, reading a bit distracting

It’s an entertaining story - classic late Iris Murdoch; mature and philosophical theme bumping along with enough strong characters and events to be gripping - almost like an old yarn. The narrator had enough conviction to carry it all and keep it all together. He just needs to work (a lot) on his laughable Scottish dialect which came over as somewhere between Welsh, Scottish, Irish and some other indecipherable accent.

Classic Kate Iris Murdoch
