In The Fat Lady Sings, the people of the planet Hale return to Earth and offer an ultimatum: Stop all forms of aggression and violence, or they will return in one year and obliterate Earth. Earthlings realize that at the end of that one year whoever is in control will rule the entire world forever. All countries start to jockey for position, and push each other out of the way.
