Maura Quarrels doesn't realize she's dead until her first college roommate (deceased) shows up and invites her to join the Dead Mothers' Club. Maura is excited - what better way to maintain control over her teenagers and husband! Unfortunately, it's not that simple. The DMC has strict rules and they don't suit Maura. Will she obey or risk banishment to hell? And where is her own mother, who died when Maura was young? Doesn't she care enough to be here to see her only daughter?
Maura's frustration peaks when she finds out her own teenage children are out of control and her husband has moved his girlfriend into the house. She'd suspected he'd cheated on her when she was alive, but how dare he continue this just because she's dead? Interwoven are stories of Maura's childhood and her mother's death, her troubled relationship with her college roommate, and the secret that roommate is still keeping from Maura, even in the afterlife.
The Dead Mothers' Club is funny, sad, and might make you think about the afterlife you're hoping for.
