Über diesen Titel

Romance, drudgery, and dungeons collide in the second book of this inventive progression-fantasy series blending office humor and RPGs.

Ever since James Lyle found an alternate dimension hidden in the stairwell of his workplace, things have been, well, weird. For one thing, when he’s not working the night shift, he’s battling killer mail carts and ravenous swarms of sticky notes. For another, he’s dealing with some very complex and intense emotions for several of his friends. Meanwhile, his parents have offloaded his younger sister on him, a minor annoyance in the grand scheme of things but it certainly doesn’t help.

As if all this weren’t enough, James’s voyages into the dungeon world seem to be having a strange effect on the world in which he actually lives. His memories are disappearing, changing—to the point where people he knows should exist somehow seem to have been wiped from reality. Logic would say he and his questing mates should maybe, I don’t know, stop heading into the eerie maze of seemingly endless cubicles and dubiously useful skill orbs? But if James is going to set his plane of existence right, he’ll need to defeat the corporate darkness he’s uncovered . . .

Blending slice of life with snarky working-class humor, brilliant role-playing mechanics, and irresistible world-building, The Daily Grind 2 is a pitch-perfect continuation of an epic series, guaranteed to charm anyone who’s ever dealt with the nine-to-five slog.

The second volume of the hit LitRPG fantasy series—with more than four million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

Review: The Daily Grind – Volume II

The second installment of The Daily Grind deepens the strange duality at the heart of the series: the crushing weight of mundane life juxtaposed with the dangerous, unknowable chaos of an interdimensional dungeon hidden in a corporate office. And while it still offers compelling questions and moments of real intrigue, many of the problems from the first book linger and a few new ones emerge.

The main draw continues to be the dungeon in an mundane world. As well as the existential horror threaded through the concept of the dungeon. One particularly chilling detail is the idea that those who die within its walls are simply… forgotten. It’s not flashy or dramatic, just a erasure from memory. It adds a quiet but heavy sense of dread,

Unfortunately, the protagonist is still stuck in his need to be witty. A trait that increasingly feels like a shield against sincerity. Now doubled by a female friend with just as much screen time. It undercuts moments that could have landed with more emotional weight.

The polyamorous relationship that forms between the main character and two close companions is an unexpected deviation from the usual romantic tropes. But it’s handled with a frustrating lightness.
It's presented more as a narrative footnote than something lived in or emotionally explored.
There’s real potential there for character interaction in how they view each other, how they navigate jealousy or care, how trauma and intimacy intersect — but for now, it’s more of a checkbox than a connection.
With the immediate crisis resolved by the end of the volume, there’s hope that future installments will give these dynamics some missing depth.

There’s a good story here. Hopefully, it’s allowed to breathe.
