This butchered quote from "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" is quite suitable to describe "The Crimson Talisman".While the protagonists are somewhat likeable, the story feels like someone's homebrew Eberron Spotlight Campaign, in a hamfisted sort of way: Every other chapter the heroes stumble into a new flashy set-piece (castle, port, airship, graveyard, fallen city...) and, by sheer accident, into another gathering of various undead. Once in a while the BBEG shows up to scare them and urge them to flee onwards - into another location filled with undead.
I had hoped to get to know some of the unique features of the Lhazaar principalities, but the author portrays them as a rather bland mixture between a Caribbean port and a scottish fishing village.
All in all: It's a solid enough Eberron road/trail movie through a huge graveyard.
