Sarah Morgan is such a gifted writer when it comes to reflecting the complex feelings involved in relationships between friends, siblings, parents and spouses. This story is just another example of this gift. The four characters who are the focalizers in this story, all have entirely different personalities which Morgan skillfully constructs without too much unnatural meta-narrative. Morgan performs what Virginia Woolf demanded, when she told us in A Room of One‘s Own to write books from women, about women, to women. You will not find an action story arch in this book. You‘ll find story-lines that evolve over the entirety of the book and reflect real-life relationships and struggles. You‘ll find touching explorations of emotion which will draw you in and put you right alongside the characters in this story. Still, it‘s a lighthearted story and will bring you the Christmas spirit you were wanting to feel.

The narrator acts out the voices very well and especially the passages where the characters reflect on pain, the narrator manages to reflect that in her tone of voice.
