Wie konnte sich die Schrifstellerin so realistisch einfühlen in die Nöte einer an Alzheimer Erkrankten? Wie Alice manchmal ganz klar ihre Defizite sieht und an in anderen Situationen überhaupt nicht merkt, wie verrückt das ist, was sie sagt und tut. Oder wie sie immer distanzierter ihre Familie betrachtet. Ihr Mann John ist plötzlich nicht mehr John, sondern "der Mann". Oder ihre Töchter "die Mutter" und die "andere Frau".
Nach diesem Buch verstehe ich die Welt dieser Menschen noch einmal ganz anders.
Tragisch fand ich, dass ihr unbedingter Wunsch, sich rechtzeitig (!?) umzubringen, nicht geklappt hat. Auch wenn es liebevoll verbrämt wird.
Die Sprecherin spricht zwar ein schönes Amerikanisch, allerdings ein bisschen unbetont. Kommt man aber nach kurzer Einhörzeit gut klar mit.

Wer noch nicht viel ueber Alzheimer wusste, ist nach der Lektuere ein kluegerer Mensch. Lisa Genova oeffnet den Lesern die Augen und fuehrt sie in eine ganz neue, noch nie betretene Welt. Die Figur der Alice ist mitfuehlend und teils ergreifend geschildert, man kann verstehen, in welchen Schritten ein Patient sein "mensch-sein" verliert. UND man versteht die Noete der Angehoerigen!
5 Sterne dafuer.
Es gefaellt mir aber nicht, dass uns Lesern der koerperliche Verfall von Alice erspart wird. Er gehoert aber dazu, in all seiner Grausamkeit. Genauso wie die Wut und Verzweiflung der Patienten, die damit auch ihre Umwelt terrorisieren. Alice bleibt stets geduldig und lieb. Hm.

Ganz grosser Minuspunkt: Auch wenn Lisa Genovas Geschichte von mir 5 Sterne bekommt, Ihr Sprechen derselben bekommt nur traurige 2. Ihr Erzaehlmodus ist monoton, fast gelangweilt, Emotionen sind nicht zu erkennen. Waere die Story nicht so interessant, ich haette das Zuhoeren abgebrochen. Das ist schade.

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

Maybe a great novel... maybe a real good movie... but Lisa Genova is the worst audio-book-speaker I've heard before. So emotionless that I really don't know if I can make it through the whole audiobook without falling asleep every 10 Minutes. Sorry, a great story in a really worse audiobook.
