Über diesen Titel

The Federation races to discover the culprits of several terrorist attacks, sending their flagship, the USS Prometheus, to stop war breaking out in the galaxy.

A mysterious terrorist organisation has carried out several attacks against the Federation and Klingon Empire. Tensions are running high in a region already crippled by conflict. The perpetrators are tracked to the Lembatta Cluster, a mysterious region of space whose inhabitants, the Renao, regard the Alpha Quadrant s powers as little more than conquering tyrants. The Federation are desperate to prevent more bloodshed, and have sent their most powerful warship, the USS Prometheus, into the Cluster to investigate the threat before all-consuming war breaks out.

Having downloaded the English version of this audiobook, I was at first unaware that the original version was written in German. However, as native German speaker, I soon noticed the telltale signs of an unskilled German-to-English translation. The most annoying blunder: "Volk" ('people', but also 'species' in the SciFi context), has been consistently rendered as "Nation". As in "the Klingon nation". Given that interactions between various species are the kingpin of virtually all Star Trek storylines, this is simply terrible. Many more examples abound throughout the audiobook, but do not come to mind at the moment.
If this should not be a dealbreaker to you, consider also the abysmal performance of the speaker. Newman has a pleasant-enough British accent, but is entirely unaware of the canonical pronunciation of most Star Trek vocabulary. Think "Tal Shiar" being rendered as "Tull Shyarr". Again, this is far from the only example, but serves to illustrate the point: All in all, no ten minutes of this audiobook will pass without the listener being violently torn from the suspension of disbelief that is crucial for enjoying a good story.
This is quite a shame, since the authors themselves actually have done a pretty good job of weaving a convincing narrative around the adventures of the USS Prometheus. All things considered, if you can, you probably should listen to the German original instead.

Terrible translation and performance
