A funny romantic shapeshifter roadtrip novel. I am still laughing and I think I fell a little bit in love with Dalton. For all who like werewolf shapeshifter novels: try something different: dinosaurs!

The last phrase of the blurb was the nail in my coffin. I'm constantly digging deeper to discover a world of shapeshifters that are more fun than the usual werewolf.
This book is great. I expected a funny, short romance and did get exactly that. The guys are unique, what can you not like about a punk and a nerdy professor. And the author dealt very well by not making a huge age gap between a thousand years old being and a weak human, I liked the solution.

Creative and Entertaining

Ein Fehler ist aufgetreten. Bitte versuche es in ein paar Minuten noch einmal.
I would like to start by saying that I originally only got this audio book because it was free. I was sold when I read it’s about gay paleontology, which turned into me pretty much expecting trash when I read the last sentence about dino shifters. Almost would’ve skipped it even for free. I’m so glad I didn’t.

The book isn’t especially deep but it’s fun. An incredible amount of fun. The story is fast paced and the main characters are not only likable, but Maddox created a force of nature when she created Dalton. I’ve rarely adored a character this much.

The part about dino shifters also isn’t the cringe I honestly expected it to be, it’s quite nicely done and doesn’t follow the many shifter books that are basically just erotic novels talking about mating rituals and primal dominance and possessiveness and all that often weirdly toxic stuff. I didn’t expect to, but I enjoyed even the parts of the story about one character being a literal dinosaur. It’s also quite refreshing to get an actual explanation for his ability to shift.

The only thing I didn’t really like was the sex scenes to be honest. There’s not many of them and there’s nothing really wrong with the ones that are there, I just think they could’ve been better writing-wise.

Finally, the narrator is doing an excellent job as well. I had to get used to his Dalton-voice at the start but after that he was really pleasant to listen to. I sometimes had a bit of trouble discerning the voices of side characters here and there but that really is minor criticism.

All in all I’d heavily recommend this book if you’re looking for the same Dalton always seems to be looking for. Fun. With a hunt for some ancient bones as a side dish. I certainly enjoyed coming along for the ride.

Surprisingly fantastic

"Oh my God, I’ll make you so happy,” he said between kisses. “I’ll bring you so many rabbits!” 

Ich musste dieses – in meinem Fall – Hörbuch einfach anfangen, da es dort Dudes gibt, die Dino-Shifter sind?! DINOS?!?!?!?!?!?! Keine „langweiligen“ Werwölfe oder so ... nein ... DINOS! Holy fucking heck. Ich weiß auch gar nicht, was ich erwartet habe, aber vielleicht hätte ich es wissen sollen – vielleicht auch nicht, I dunno. 

Mir war die Geschichte ein wenig zu ... plump und seicht und Klischee. Die Sprache der Charaktere, (und damit im ganzen Buch, da es in der ersten Person geschrieben ist) war mir zu aggro und assi und anzüglich. Generell war es mir wieder mit der Klischee-Story zu viel „I wanna f*ck him“ und „Oh he hot, I love him“. (Irgendwann lerne ich, dass diese Bücher nichts für mich sind; irgendwann.) 
Der Schreibstil war okay, nichts Besonderes, aber auch nicht katastrophal. Soweit ich das vom Hörbuch her beurteilen kann.

Ich bin leider kein großer Fan von Kirt Graves, welcher das Hörbuch gesprochen hat. Sad. 
Irgendwie bin ich enttäuscht, obwohl ich ohne große Erwartungen rangegangen bin ... 

Aber noch was Positives zum Ende? Es gibt „In einem Land vor unserer Zeit“ – Liebe und Referenzen im Buch!!!!!
