A collection of true stories about the amazing lives of eight shelter dogs. Many of these dogs were unwanted because of their size, behavior, or medical condition. All of the dogs found owners who loved and cared for them.

Though Audible listeners will miss out on the photographs of dogs and their owners that are included in the print edition of this nonfiction book, the stories in Shelter Dogs are evocative enough to make anyone picture his or her favorite border collie, terrier, or mixed breed. These eight true stories are triumphant and inspiring, leading people to give every down-and-out dog a second chance. Author Peg Kehret has won numerous awards for children's literature, and this book is geared toward younger listeners, though any dog lover will enjoy its content. Erin Clarke's voice closely traces the emotion of each individual tale, capturing everything from heartbreak to the redemption of loving adoption.
