Some wounds run deeper than physical scars.
The Guardian of Night nearly killed them.
Hania Hawke—better known as the superhero Raiden—survived. So did Alana, the Guardian of Water, and Juan, the Guardian of Nature.
Barely.
Broken, battered, and left unconscious for days, the three Guardians retreat to Arizona to recover from an enemy unlike anything they've faced before. With powers tied to darkness, the stars, Tartarus, and the shadow of Chernobog, the Guardian of Night has given Hania something he isn't accustomed to feeling in a fight: Fear.
But Hania isn't running alone anymore.
Alana and Juan have chosen to stand beside him, forming an unlikely family determined to help Hania clear his name and bring an end to the growing war between the Guardians.
First, they have to put themselves back together.
Hania has stopped drinking, but the depression, guilt, and nightmares haven't disappeared with the bottle. His confidence is beginning to crack, and his growing feelings for Alana force him to confront something even more terrifying than another battle: the possibility that he might actually deserve to be loved.
Alana is fighting wounds of her own, haunted by guilt from a past she can't outrun. And while their bodies slowly heal, the scars none of them can see threaten to tear them apart.
The war isn't willing to wait.
A creature born from Japanese legend has begun hunting souls, devouring them to become stronger with every victim. The Guardian of Night is still out there. The other Guardians remain unknown. And Kagutsuchi has yet to reveal his next move.
Hania wants to end the war.
He wants another chance against the Guardian of Night.
But before Raiden can save anyone else, he and his friends may have to learn that strength isn't just about how hard they can fight.
Sometimes it's about finding the courage to heal.
Three wounded Guardians. A war among the gods. And a monster that grows stronger with every soul it consumes.
