Of immense interest to all who have a fondness for our national parks, "Paths Crossed – Protecting National Parks" brings to view the diverse training and skills of what, in the profession, is known as the protection ranger. When it comes to public safety, a protection ranger is all of it rolled in to one: law enforcement, emergency medical services, fire fighting, search and rescue, and more.
Staying with the author's brand of first person narrative nonfiction and one word chapter titles, within the book covers are sixty-six intriguing accounts containing embedded lessons learned. Once again the author disproofs that experience can't be taught.
From watery northern and southern borders, the listener goes on a virtual journey. Within the splendor of Mother Nature, witness rangers, often alone or with little support, adapt, improvise, and overcome to provide these services. A splendor that causes the author to find his true nature. If you have ever wondered what a park ranger really does or thought you might want to be one, this is the book for you.
