The story doesn't make sense, the characters don't make sense and neither do the dialogues. In parts the book is horribly long-winded, especially the endless internal monologue of the main character gets super annoying. Other parts are suddenly rushed without any story development at all. Why does everybody behave so stupidly?
I couldn't be bothered to care about any of the characters. And there was no feel whatsoever of the time (1930) and place (France) the story was set in. This could have been anywhere at any time between 1920 and 1980.
I won't try another book by this author. This was a waste of time and money.

So disappointing!
