The disconnect between the characters' supposed brilliance and their "idiotic" behavior creates significant friction. Incompetence in every way. The 4 sleuths are praised at the end as "extraordinary detectives", yet their actions suggest otherwise. They consistently draw incorrect conclusions and lack basic logic. The characters essentially "stumble" into the answer by pure chance. The author frequently reiterates established facts, treating the reader as if they have a short memory, which bogs down the pacing.

Male audiobook reader: Davies has a habit of dropping his pitch at the end of every sentence, making every line sound like the end of a major section or chapter. I also suggest listening to him at a higher playback speed.
