First things first: I‘m a big fan of Stephen Leather‘s Spider Shepherd series. Listened to all books available on audible and read the others. Moving Targets is set as a prequel to the actual series.
The story takes off with an SAS posting in Afghanistan, featuring Spider and other characters who will reappear in adventures to come. As the plot develops, both actions and actors become less and less realistic. Sorry, Stephen, this is way too exaggerated for my liking. No need to elevate Spider to a super human in his early years. Nor to make the SAS appear a rogue squadron secretly calling the shots in UK‘s foreign policy.

My recommendation: If you haven’t read/heard of Spider Shepherd yet, start the series with the ‚actual‘ part 1 (Hard Landing). If you know the series, you‘re bound to be disappointed - but you know, that Stephen Leather usually does way better than this.

No disrespect, Mr Leather! Looking very much forward to Spider Shepherd 16.

P.S.: Flawless narrating by Paul Thornley, 5 stars as usual.
