One of the most comprehensive oral histories of apartheid, Mandela: An Audio History tells the story of the struggle against apartheid. It weaves together more than 50 first-person interviews with an unprecedented collection of archival sound: a rare recording of the 1964 trial that resulted in Mandela’s life sentence; a visit between Mandela and his family secretly taped by a prison guard; and pirate radio broadcasts from the African National Congress.©2014 Radio Diaries, Inc. Having grown up during this era the history was not new to me however hearing it directly from those who were part of this history was very moving. I learned quite a lot hearing it told from a different perspective as taught in the schools. Recognising the voices of the politicians and figures of this time brought it to life. As Mandela said " you must know your history to be able to know yourself ". I highly recommend this short documentary. It's different to reading in books.

Told in a compact and vivid manner
