William G. Flanagan
William Flanagan’s Like Mother, Like Son recounts the sensational true case of handsome young playboy Jed Ardito, who strangled his beautiful Brooklyn girlfriend to death in an erotic frenzy. But this true crime story gets even stranger: Seventeen years earlier, Ardito’s mother Frances Victoria Ardito had her own illicit lover murdered.

Jonathan Yen’s crisp voice and careful pacing accentuate the sense of tragic foreboding in William G. Flanagan’s Like Mother, Like Son.
Flanagan’s true-crime story begins with the death of 24-year-old Marie Daniele at the hands of her controlling playboy boyfriend, Jed Perdito, in a midtown Manhattan hotel room in 1993. This brutal murder had an ironic twist: 17 years earlier, Perdito’s mother hired members of a motorcycle gang to kill a lover after he attempted to break off their romance.
Yen relates Flanagan’s deeply researched account with a quiet intensity and subtle characterizations in passages of dialogue.
