The city is lost, but the new king lives.

After rescuing Prince Thal from certain death, I am one of his few trusted servants. I am his blade in the night and his sworn assassin. Killing is my only skill, and killing has little use when we run from Veylan’s forces and search for a safe refuge.

All the friendly doors are shut to us, and the Wandering King is losing support. Those who know he lives wait for a good moment to betray him. He must hide and build his strength, but he cannot do it alone.

I am tasked with riding through his shattered kingdom, rallying what support he has left, and eliminating the threats by blade or poison or a weapon no one knows I possess.

Magic.

It runs through my veins like fire and demands my death should I be discovered. Mages no longer live in this world. Not after the overpowered players blasted the lands generations ago. It’s a mark on my back as I ride away from Thal and my friends.

But Veylan’s loyal nobles aren’t the only threat in these lands. A force darker than Veylan’s corrupt heart awaits me in the forests of the elves. A man, a creature, who plays with death, who can come into my dreams, and whose existence is known only to me.

And while Thal builds his stronghold against the armies of elves and men, I have a stand of my own to make. And one I’m unlikely to survive.
