It ends rather abruptly, but otherwise it does the series honor. I can't wait for the next book.

Amazing as always

Eine gelungene Fortsetzung der Serie! Die Sprache und der Sprecher ziehen den Hörer, auch in langwierigeren Phasen der Geschichte, in Bann.
Die Geschichte selbst wirkt an sich nicht besonders originell, lässt den Hörer aber immer wieder mit gesellschaftskritischen Fragen aufhorchen.
Leider wird nicht jedem der stoische Umgang mit der Charakterentwicklung Reskins zurecht kommen. Sein Fremdsein in der Gesellschaft ist sicherlich gewollt, wirkt manchmal aber etwas zu erzwungen.
Trotz kleiner Kritik, äusserst empfehlenswert. Ich denke jedoch, dass ein B2 Niveau, wenn nicht C1 hilfreich ist, um das Hörspiel auf Englisch zu geniessen.

I was absolutely hooked on this great story that is so brilliantly read by Nick Podehl. I can’t wait for the next book in the series!

Auch dieses Buch einmal grandios! Intelligente und auch immer wieder witzige Dialoge. Eine Geschichte mit Inhalt und Substanz. Tolle Charaktere und natürlich ein einzigartiger Protagonist!

Initially, we knew there would be some drama as everyone misunderstood Res. This was handled very well though in the first book with the general. After this though the drama only increased. When he openly becomes king at the end of the tournament drama goes crazy.

The stupid thing is that this could all be avoided if Res just said privately to his close friends what he is and what he expects. Same again to his strikers and close guard. At one point he does say to his strikers that he’s trained all his life for this and he doesn’t need coddled but they instantly disregard this.

Everything is slowed down and the reader is anooyed to listen to everyone questioning every thing Res does or says even though it it obvious that he knows what he’s doing. We also have to sit through long explanations of everything magical as if we were children and couldn’t understand anything. The explanations only serve to annoy while saying everything Res does is impossible even though he does it anyway.

The author is ruining the series and I don’t understand why. They pledge fealty and then instantly break their word. Tamm for example as the first straight away breaks his word and disagrees with Res publicly. From here it just gets worse and worse. I just don’t understand all the questioning and that. It’s so stupid! Res is a great character but surrounded by morons that can’t understand apparently. I finally stopped listening and refunded the book when one of his own strikers declares Res insane.

Great disappointment to what was shaping up to be such a great series!
