On April 6, 1994, an airplane carrying the president of Rwanda Juvenal Habyarimana and Burundian president Cyprien Ntaryamira, who were both returning from Dares Salam, Tanzania, from a one-day regional summit of heads of state, was shot down on its descent into Kigali, Rwanda, by unknown assailants.
