"What if happiness isn’t about being safe?"
Sophie Johnson spent her whole life securely behind the concrete walls of Fremont City. According to her grandmother, that should be enough. Questions only cause pain. But Sophie wants more. She wants answers.
In a world where the US is split into a democracy and a strict theocracy, Sophie, an anxious teen, struggles to obey and fit in. But, after witnessing the arrest and escape of a strange man in the park, 13-year-old Sophie is curious and attempts to follow him. What she finds changes the trajectory of her life.
Her life is turned upside down when she uncovers a dark secret - the Elders are using radical mind-control therapy to turn "undesirable" people into mindless, hollow workers. Will she be able to save herself and her family from becoming Hollow citizens?
