Half-sisters, Efie and Colina, are treated very differently by their mother, Fenella, who favors the vibrant Efie. Colina, the strikingly beautiful sister, is treated as a servant. Both girls lost their fathers under mysterious circumstances.
The eligible clan bachelors try to win the affections of Efie, and ignore the shy and quiet Colina. When Fenella hosts a banquet for Ross, the successor to the Lairdship of Elgin, in hopes that he will marry Efie, Efie wants no part of Ross. She has no interest in him and refuses to engage a man she feels no attraction for.
But Efie soon changes her mind about Ross as she finds him very handsome and wants to get to know him better. But Ross does not have eyes for Efie; he only has eyes for Colina. While Colina is secretly thrilled and returns Ross's interest, she must sneak around to see him in order to avoid the wrath of both Efie and Fenella.
But when their secret trysts are discovered, Fenella sets a plan in motion that will forever break Ross and Colina apart. But as that plan begins to unfold, past secrets are revealed that threaten the clan, and Colina's life is at stake. Can Ross stop the unfolding of this horrific plan before it's too late?
