Über diesen Titel

A Warhammer Crime Story

Tormented by his past, Probator Quillon Drask’s reputation as the go-to detective for strange crimes has led him to the Polaris district of Varangantua. Warring families, corrupt officials, and a monstrous hunger stalk these streets, and Drask must overcome his own inner agonies to bring justice to the tormented city.

Listen to it because

See the world of the 41st millennium from street level, in a grisly crime drama that shines a light on what life is like in the Imperium's rancid underbelly.

The story

'This city eats men....'

Quillon Drask is a haunted man, wrestling with the daemons of his past. With a reputation that draws only the strangest cases, he is intimately familiar with the malevolent underbelly of Varangantua. Yet nothing that has gone before could have prepared the probator for the horrors which now blight the district of Polaris.

Faced with a savage crime with frightening implications, Drask is thrust into a game of corruption and conspiracy, warring families and blasphemous revelations. Only by mastering the bitter lessons of his career and his own tortured past can Drask hope to bring the perpetrators to justice, and curb the monstrous hunger which stalks the city.

Written by Marc Collins. Running time 9 hours 52 minutes. Narrated by Richard Reed.

I went into Grim Repast without any major expectations — just hoping for another decent entry in the Warhammer Crime series — and I came out satisfied. Not blown away, but content. The story delivers exactly what it promises: a dark, grimy glimpse into the underbelly of a hive world, told through the eyes of the law rather than the soldiers or zealots of the Imperium. It’s atmospheric, gritty, and grounded, far removed from the bombastic warfare of the wider 40K universe.

The pacing works well, though I felt the audiobook could have benefited from an extra hour or two. More time would’ve helped to flesh out the atmosphere or dig deeper into some of the story’s darker themes. The main character is well-portrayed and believable, though I would have liked a bit more attention to his physical struggles — wounds, recovery, and limitations — as these could have added a sharper edge to the realism.

If you’re looking for a solid slice of Warhammer Crime in the 41st Millennium, this one won’t disappoint. It’s not the strongest in the lineup (Flesh and Steel still holds that title for me), but Grim Repast stands firmly alongside Bloodlines as a worthwhile listen — moody, competent, and unmistakably Warhammer.

Solid, Gritty, and True to Warhammer Crime’s Spiri

too many metaphors, too many grim dark, too many unlikeable characters.

the first half was interesting, but later it got more and more annoying, so I had to skip many parts, just to get to the end.

A much better book is Flesh and Steel from Guy Haley. Same kind of book, but the story and characters are much more fitting and the writing in general more straight forward without so much wandering in the writing and story.

Too much...
