Between all the crime and suspense you normally get on offer for entertainment I love to read an adventure story and so I have read and now heard the Courtney saga from the beginning and am sorry that it came to an end with Golden Fox. Of course Wilbur Smith is not in line with the do-gooders and the fanatically righteous but that is part of my fun. He mingles fiction and historical facts masterfully and gives the reader valuable insight into the past. Though he never expresses support for the apartheid system he does not put the tribal system with its patriarchic structures above the white civilisation, which was superior in technology and the ability of planning and abstraction when Africa was colonialized.
Anyway, I enjoy Wilbur Smith and love the voice of Sean Barrett and recommend the saga to everybody who wants to hear a fascinating story placed in an bygone time
