After leaving the service, Lee 'Red' Gammon sets himself up as a private eye in New Orleans. In less than two years, he's managed to make an enemy on the local police force and set up a network of eccentric if reasonably reliable informants. Chief among these is Masaka, who appears to be an Oriental girl in her twenties but may be something entirely else. She has an unsettling way of appearing and disappearing without notice, and bringing particularly odd cases to his attention. Cases he would rather do without.
First, he had to prevent the summoning of a demon. Then came the case of the diabolical dice, followed by a quest for a statuette that turned out to be anything but.
Now, a panic-stricken client bursts into his office with a wild story of a being pursued by a hulking, soulless creature that has been summoned up by a displaced family.
