The major plot points in this book are romance and the search for motive and identity of a mystery nemesis. The latter is unresolved. This makes much of the plot feel pointless. Why spend so much time on the mystery, if you are not going to resolve it?
This book is described as “stand-alone“ but feels like a setup for a long-going series of “Who‘s the bad guy and what is their goal?“.
Or it‘s just lazy writing, author wanting the drama without creating explanations.
