©2021 Bryan Perry (P)2022 Bryan PerryThe world-building is shockingly weak and gave the impression of a very early fantasy draft, filled with brutality in an attempt to appear “dark” and mature. Unfortunately, violence alone cannot replace good storytelling.
The characters are flat, their decisions often nonsensical.
The only genuinely positive aspect was the audiobook narrator, who gave a far better performance than the material deserved. Without her, I would have stopped listening very early on.
Overall, a deeply disappointing read that confuses chaos and gore for complexity.
