Inhaltsangabe

New York City has been decimated by war and plague, and most of civilization has migrated to underground enclaves, where life expectancy is no more than the early 20s. When Deuce turns 15, she takes on her role as a Huntress, and is paired with Fade, a teenage Hunter who lived Topside as a young boy. When she and Fade discover that the neighboring enclave has been decimated by the tunnel monsters - or Freaks - who seem to be growing more organized, the elders refuse to listen to warnings. And when Deuce and Fade are exiled from the enclave, the girl born in darkness must survive in daylight, in the ruins of a city whose population has dwindled to a few dangerous gangs. As the two are guided by Fade’s long-ago memories, they face dangers, and feelings, unlike any they’ve ever known.

Not as good as I thought it would be...

I'm a huge fan of Fallout 3 therefore I liked the setting because it really reminded me of this awesome game. The problem that I had: I did not like the main character. (Yes sweetheart you are a huntress, we get it! You don't have to tell us every time that you are indeed a huntress.) Although I didn't like Deuce I kind of warmed up to Fade because his story was way more interesting than Deuce's. Unfortunately that wasn't enough.

I'm just not interested enough in the story after reading the first book and I thought the ending was a real slap in the face for readers because the cliffhanger was placed to lure people in to buy the next book, which I won't be doing since it felt like the book actually had another chapter or two but the publishing house decided to break it up and cash in on a sequel.
