Emery is outgoing and adventurous, and she doesn’t let being Deaf stop her from achieving her goals. Like, for example, acting in her middle school’s production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream! So what if her school has never used Deaf actors before? No biggie! Especially with her friends Leah and Fariq by her side, she can do anything.
But as Emery navigates the world of fairies and sprites, she realizes there might be more to it than she bargained for. For starters, not all of her castmates are as welcoming as she’d hoped, and some of them are downright mean. And then there’s Nick, the Shakespeare nerd from a town nearby who she meets through her school district’s chat site--and who she’s somehow forgotten to tell that she’s Deaf.
