In Death Comes As the End, Dame Agatha Christie transports us back to ancient Egypt 2000 B.C. where a priest’s daughter, investigating a suspicious death, uncovers an asp’s nest of jealousy, betrayal, and serial murder.

It is Egypt in 2000 BC, where death gives meaning to life. At the foot of a cliff lies the broken, twisted body of Nofret, concubine to a ka-priest. Young, beautiful, and venomous, most agree that it was fate—she deserved to die like a snake!

But at her father's house on the banks of the Nile, the priest's daughter Renisenb believes that the woman's death is suspicious. Increasingly, she becomes convinced that the source of evil lurks within their household—and watches helplessly as the family's passions explode in murder. . . .

An Agatha Christie novel but in ancient Egypt. It is familiar, but with a different time and culture. I prefer the regular setting in Europe between 1920 and 1960, but I enjoyed it nevertheless.

Ancient Egypt instead of Great Britain

This is my first Agatha Christie book, came here for the ancient Egyptian setting, and very much enjoyed this, especially the underlying themes and the character arc of the main protagonist. The twists and turns were interesting, and the setting well researched (from what I can tell), which I enjoyed, but I also think that the setting could have been anywhere else and the story would have changed little, which to me felt that the setting, though as I said, well researched, felt under-used. Still very cool! The performance was wonderful too, though I always find it a bit funny to hear the English working class or upper class accents for non-English characters. It takes me out of the immersion. Personally, I always wish stories would be narrated by someone with a more story-related accent.

Fantastic performance
