Captivating, but cat-heavy with recording glitches
The story line is worked out well with believable characters, and it’s captivating most of the time.
What annoyed me, though, was that, over the course of the three books, the story centered more and more on the telepathic cats. While these delivered fitting punch lines for tension relieve in the first two novellas, the third one is more of a cat novella than anything else. In my opinion, Craig Martelle clearly overdid it here, writing too much about the cats’ general attitude and behavior (there are minutes and minutes of pure cat hunting experience, for instance) and not enough of the “space opera”. This makes it hard to follow through with the third book.
The recording suffers from technical problems, too. At one instance, Chris Abernathy can be heard recording a memo to himself (“insert mind voice here”), and there are numerous audible clicks when the recording device was switched on or off.
