Über diesen Titel
He may be a King, but I’ll never kneel.
Colton
If asked to list all the folks in Darling, Montana I can’t stand, I’d have a single name.
Noah King.
He’s the second-best farrier in town (me being the first). A royal pain in my behind. And an all-around smug pest I wouldn’t mind knocking down a peg or two.
It’s no surprise after so many years, our animosity has come to a head. I just never in my wildest, hate-fueled fantasies expected Noah’s attack to involve his lips on mine.
It was a mistake, no question. But apparently I still have some things to figure out about myself.
One thing I do know? Noah King and I have been bitter rivals from the start. And nothing, not even the fire he lights under my skin, makes a lick of difference in the end.
Surrendering to my enemy isn’t an option.
Brim Over Boot is a small town, enemies-to-lovers romance between rival farriers, with a double bi-awakening, tension and banter galore, scorching encounters, a slow fall from hate to love, and one very HEA. It’s book 2 in The Darling Brothers series but can be listened to as a standalone.

Kale Williams's narration is perfect, and you can easily distinguish the individual voices.

The enemies-to-lovers trope drags a little too long here. Up until almost 80%, I still didn’t fully understand why these two hated each other so much — the justification only comes later, when the third-act drama hits and Colton finally starts to realize his mistakes.
Colton, who I remembered as this bright, upbeat, helpful guy from book one, comes across surprisingly immature for his 36 years. He’s often aggressive toward Noah — constantly cursing, shoving, and snapping — and it made it harder to connect with him.
Noah, though… my heart aches for him. He’s such a beautifully layered character — a dominant alpha who accepts his sexuality quickly and begins to explore it with openness and confidence. Beneath that strength, he’s just a softie with a big heart, shaped by loneliness and the rough hand life’s dealt him. He’s easily the soul of this story.
The spice is steamy and so well done — and I even found myself laughing out loud at a few moments when Colt starts exploring his sexuality alone. It added a light, real touch that balanced out the heavier emotions. 🔥😅
Their love, once it finally blossoms, feels a bit rushed — I wish we’d had more time with them as a couple after they give in. Still, their connection has depth, warmth, and genuine emotion.
And once again, Kale Williams delivers a phenomenal narration. His performance perfectly captures both MMCs — Colton’s volatility and Noah’s calm strength — and brings so much life and emotion to the story.
All in all, Brim Over Boot was a good, heartfelt listen — but Sweet Like Whiskey remains my favorite.
Boot, Brooding & a Bit of Burn with excellent Narration
