Bloody Mary Magdalene is Elizabeth Fern Jensen's third chapbook, a collection of poems that reveals the poet's visions of Mary Magdalene, along with her experiences during her stay at an inpatient mental hospital. Through the lens of her transgender identity and feminist activism, Jensen explores the complex relationship between the Divine Feminine and the patriarchal structures of the world, and how Mary Magdalene embodies the struggle for liberation and healing.
With raw and vivid language, Jensen lays bare the struggles of mental illness and the spiritual journey towards self-discovery and acceptance. Her poems are an ode to the resilience of the human spirit and a testament to the power of hope, love, and faith. Bloody Mary Magdalene is a moving and provocative listen that invites listeners to contemplate the role of spirituality in the face of personal and societal challenges. This chapbook is a testament to the transformative power of poetry and the beauty of the human soul.
