When the world goes dark, a doctor embarks on a perilous journey.

Doctor Anna Hastings is no stranger to disasters, having spent much of her career as an aid worker in conflict zones around the world. Yet when an electrical phenomenon known as an EMP brings down the power grid, Anna faces catastrophe on a scale she never imagined. She must learn what it means to be a doctor in a world deprived of almost all technology.

As the blackout causes planes to fall from the sky, Anna crosses paths with devoted father Mark Ryan in the chaos at the airport. Mark convinces Anna to travel with him and his seven-year-old daughter Lily to their family’s cabin in remote Maine. There Mark hopes to reunite with his wife, and find a safe refuge from a society on the brink of collapse.

Journeying across a thousand miles of backcountry trails, they will face a daily struggle against nature. Their biggest peril, though, may come from their fellow survivors. As Anna grows closer to Mark and Lily, she resolves to see them safely home. But can she hold onto her humanity in a world gone mad?

It started off quite well but then seems like plots adding up and be thrown together. There ist the trip, something happens, it gets dangerous, problem solved, on it goes, repeat. What is quite annoying is that the 7 year old child says things a 10 or 12 year old might say, in addition they always have enough food or amunition although they start of just two adults and a kid (adding more people on the way in between) and they carry additional stuff like guns and a rifle (heavy) and coloring books, books about surviving in the wild, and while hunting and foraging there is never the problem of not enough food. How can they carry all that? It is just not possible. I stoped at about half way when the two adults from the start were about to leave a good sanctuary to travel with a child through the mountains with colder and rougher weather ahead towards a cabin which is just that. No prepper stuff there, nothing to bring them through the winter. They don’t even know if there might be someone else who already took refuge there and won’t give the cabin up just because the guys wife might be there. And the romance and attachment between the travelers is unreasonable too . Save your time.
