Many of the musicians profiled are household names—Ringo Starr, Charlie Watts, Dave Grohl, for example—but the best sections feature underappreciated geniuses like The Velvet Underground’s Maureen Tucker, who shunned cymbals and played an upturned bass drum with her hands.
