Breast cancer can change your life in a single phone call, and perimenopause can make every decision feel louder, foggier, and more urgent. October brings Menopause Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month together, so we sit down with Tina Rolfs, a breast cancer survivor who lived at that intersection and had to figure out what support actually looked like when hormones, fear, and “standard protocol” all hit at once.

Tina takes us back to her DCIS diagnosis at 49, the rapid push toward surgery, radiation, and estrogen blocking medication, and the emotional whiplash of navigating care during COVID. From there, we explore how she built an integrative approach by adding a naturopathic oncology perspective alongside her medical team, and why self advocacy matters when you feel like the project manager of your own health. We also talk about the metabolic approach to cancer support, including why she chose a therapeutic ketogenic diet, what it’s really like to keep carbs that low, and how fasting fit in as she worked to stabilize blood sugar, lower inflammation, and feel like herself again.

We zoom out to what this means for midlife women who are curious about fasting for menopause, metabolic health, and personalized care. Tina explains her “test, assess, address, don’t guess” framework, including blood work, stress and cortisol signals, and genetics and nutrigenomics, plus who needs extra caution (especially anyone managing diabetes or medications). She also shares how community support makes lifestyle change safer and less isolating, and leaves us with the best advice she’s ever received: pause.

If this conversation helps you, subscribe, leave a review, and share it with a friend who needs practical hope and better questions for her next appointment.
