Abuse of power is more often quiet than loud. Sometimes it takes the form of work being handed down or a decision made without a team's consent. Radio host, Allison Lu interviews Kyle Bernshteyn, who explains why leaders drift into abuse of power, how to spot it early, and what to do when they outrank you. In segment two, Allison investigates the story centered around a former Cornell student, identified as Jane Doe, who filed a lawsuit this September alleging that, in 2024, she was drugged and sexually assaulted by seven members of the Chi Phi fraternity. The lawsuit also includes messages allegedly sent in a fraternity Snapchat group while the assault was happening. Allison finds that the broader question is "what happens when power exists without enough accountability?" Power can make people more anchored in their own point of view. That does not mean authority automatically makes someone uncaring, but it does suggest that having power can make it easier to stop noticing perspectives outside your own. Perhaps it is time to build systems where nobody needs unlimited power.

Bio: Kyle Bernshteyn is a high school senior from Burlingame, California, where his interest in leadership began in Civil Air Patrol. This Air Force auxiliary program trains teenagers in the fundamentals of command through real emergency services missions. He now mentors a group of more than 50 cadets. That experience led him to the University of Pennsylvania's Leadership in the Business World program, where he studied organizational culture and how it shapes a team's ability to reach its goals. He writes about leadership and venture capital and is working on a research paper about authority. He is most interested in the quiet forms of power abuse that are most damaging and most invisible.
